The health benefits of the types of rice we eat lie in the digestibility of rice.

What’s Wrong with White Rice?

White rice is sweet, flavourful and soft, and is enjoyed by most. However, white rice is highly polished, being stripped of its bran (outer layer) and germ. The bran contains lots of beneficial nutrients such as fibre and vitamins. What is left of white rice is the rice endosperm (white rice grain). Therefore, white rice lacks essential nutrients and other vitamins and minerals, and is also easily digested which results in blood sugar spikes. White rice thus has a high Glycaemic Index (GI), which is unfavourable especially for diabetics. A high white rice intake increases the risk of type 2 diabetes.

What about Brown Rice, isn’t it Healthier?

Brown rice is indeed healthier as the bran and germ are intact so it contains more nutrients like fibre and vitamins. The bran also acts as a protective layer to make it harder for enzymes to break down the starch in the rice endosperm during digestion. Starch is ‘trapped’ by the bran, leading to the slower digestibility of brown rice. Brown rice results in a lower glucose concentration after meals, to help you control your blood glucose levels. Despite these benefits, brown rice may not be acceptable to everyone due to it being blander, coarser and less flavourful than white rice.

How can Alchemy Fibre™ make Rice (especially White) Healthier?

Alchemy Fibre ™ for Rice is a soluble powder that dissolves to form a protective layer around the rice endosperm in your gut. It hence slows down the digestion rate of white rice to that of brown rice, which means a slower glucose release. White rice cooked with Alchemy Fibre also contains up to 3x more dietary fibre than brown rice for a healthier gut. Better yet, the white rice retains its taste and fluffy texture that most of us are familiar with. Enjoy healthier rice made with Alchemy Fibre ™ without any compromise.

Rice cooked with Alchemy Fibre™ has a lower calorie content:

Consuming rice made with Alchemy Fibre™ as compared to brown rice alone can help you cut around 18,250kcal* calories per year. That’s around 30 hours of running!

*Calculated based on 2 bowls of rice consumed everyday, with each bowl being 115g.

“Many people in Singapore are not consuming enough fibre in their diet, and struggle to do so due to food preferences, habits, or inaccessibility. I find that Alchemy Fibre™  presents an easy and straightforward way to increase the amount of fibre in one’s diet, without a change of taste or texture, thereby helping with issues such as diabetes and high cholesterol. ”

The kids love white rice whereas the adults prefer brown rice. Adding this fibre in, I don’t feel white rice is as unhealthy anymore. U can still enjoy the taste & texture of soft, fluffy white rice & benefit your health at the same time 🙂
